Having your appliances installed last. If you are planning to upgrade your appliances make sure to pick them out first in order to ensure the overall design can accommodate the items you want. The key is to have updated measurements, and properly communicate with your contractor prior to the install.

Ignoring the lighting of the space. Consider talking with your contractor on how you can better utilize your rooms current lighting, and possibly add additional lighting features throughout your space. You want to make sure you have the proper electrical wiring to make any changes or updates.

Having unrealistic expectations.  Every home renovation project is different depending on the space you are looking to renovate. A renovation project can be a messy and time consuming project that one needs to properly prepare for. Consider adding in additional time for any hiccups, researching appliances and materials, and creating a realistic budget.
